Navigating through all the bullshit terms the internet’s spawned the over the last couple of years is a nightmare. Drive right past chillwave, ignore signs to hypnagogic pop, pay no attention to hipster house; you’re in good territory but can’t see the wood for the trees. Once you’re past these you’ll get to all the real stuff. Take a left at Hype Williams and you’ll pass LA Vampires and the 100% Silk gang and then you’ve arrived at your destination: 7 slabs of mesmerising, vapour-trail slow house from Detroit native Coyote Clean Up. Magma Mondays is meant to provide one jam for each day of the week, but is best digested in all it’s hazy-eyed glory in one sitting (for productivity’s sake).
‘Mega Miss Out’ is pick of the lot, a VHS break-up song as affecting as it is vague. Vacant female vocals whisper ‘IIIIII donnnn’t missssss youuuu’, distilling all the essentials into 6 minutes of glorious piano led groove. Maga Mondays is a 21st Century answer to the dad-rock hysteria of Geldof’s ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’: just deal with it Bob, put this on whatever media device they’ve got you using and ride the swells all the way into Tuesday morning.
